12/19/06 05:49 pm - Meme..black holes and other revelations

Rules: So the point of this game is to post ten weird habits/random facts about yourself and then "tag" ten people who then have to post a blog about their ten weird habits/random facts. You have to tag them in your blog and then post a comment on their page saying that you tagged them. No tag-backs.

1./ My parents are naturists. This means, if any of you don't know, that they go to specified places and take off their clothes and wander around naked with each other. Although they haven't been for over ten years (to my knowledge), this was a regular thing when I was about 7. It didn't do me any harm at all :-p

2./ I can't ride a bike. I might have mentioned this before, but I cannae remember. I tried when I was about 7, and gave up. I now feel it's too late to try again!! If anybody is willing to teach me and have patience (I am very physically unco-ordinated), please do. It's very embarrassing.

3./ I once stole £5 from my Dad to buy a Terry Pratchett book when I was about 14. The book was shit. I felt guilty.

4./ I have this thing about guys who are geeky. Not really geeky. But kind of Jake Gyllenhaal in "Proof" geeky. As in, if any of you haven't seen that film (and I don't blame you), it's the kind of geekery which means the guy is quite quiet and shy, very intelligent and passionate about his thing, but also has a great body underneath. Um, yes. Bit specialist methinks!

5./ I once bought a Hanson CD. Please don't judge me. In fact I have 2 Hanson CDs. That's it though. Promise!

6./ I am allergic to a special kind of red ink. At primary school they used to give the kids stamps on the hands, with this cool stamp thing, for good work. Whenever I got stamped I came out in a rash thing. I liked the attention too much though, so it took a couple of allergic reactions before I told them!

7./ I have a really bad habit of putting my fingers in my ears if it's itchy or whatever. Not only is it possibly quite unhygienic and not particularly attractive, it's become almost soothing. I should really stop as I'm getting tinnitus!!

8./ I have flat feet, meaning the arches in my feet have collapsed. Some people say I walk a bit weirdly. Now you know why. Also this means shoe shopping can be a potential motherfucker, as it means that shoes which seem comfy aren't comfy at all. They can be horribly deceptive, in fact.

9./I had never been drunk before I came to university. Look at me now, quite the alcoholic!!!

10./ Now this is something that you will probably not know...during sixth form college I was a secret smoker for about six months. Don't judge me!!!! In my defence, it was only the odd cigarette. I promise!!!

I tag..whoever wants to do it! And you have to be as honest as I was!!

Being randomly dumped

12/2/06 11:54 am - Oh dear

12/1/06 08:20 pm - Mixed business

So it's now pretty much official. The guy I was casually dating is moving back to America. This is pretty sad. What's even more sad is that he didn't tell me this himself; I found it out from his MySpace page. What is even worse is that when I asked him, he said he was going back for a visit. Loads of people however have commented on his page to the tune of otherwise.

To be honest, it's more disappointing than upsetting. I totally understand his reason for moving back; he couldn't get a job here, and has ben trying for over a year. But to not tell me...to let me find out like this? Fucking hell. At least he should have had some fucking respect for me. Ho hum. He has been blocking me or something on MSN I think (as he's usually on it most evenings..I haven't seen him on it for 10 days or so now) and not been replying to my calls and texts. Oh well.

In other news, I'm in one of those "people are horribly fickle and I hate them" moods right now, but it'll soon pass, I think. I think that the whole boyfriend thing is probably the main reason for this, although the fact I was supposed to be going to see a play tonight, and have been let down by someone, is not helping really.

On the plus side, I just had a lovely text conversation with somebody, and um yes, I have some articles up on the internet!! Visit www.transitiontradition.com, and click through to the magazine section. I am well chuffed. Next stop, The Guardian, hehe.

Now for a weekend of work. Christ.

11/27/06 10:40 pm - Update time

Good evening people of LJ land.

I am having such a nice, relaxing night. It's great. I've been doing something or other every night for eight nights in a row (not just going out, but CinSoc stuff too for example), and it's great to be sitting here doing nothing. I'm watching Animal House, picking my nose and eating flapjacks. It's amazing. I was supposed to go out tonight for a social thing, but screw it. I need some me time dammit. I can be afford to be selfish for once.

I've also decided to change my dissertation topic. This will be for the final time though. I'm doing...Hemmingway! It's basically because I've been reading a Pinter biography/criticism thing, and I'm not sure I can read his stuff for a whole term as it seems very samey. It's probably not, but I don't particularly want to take the risk. Although Hemmingway is not exactly going to be Mr Variety, I'm going to focus on a mixture of biography and his fiction (which is in itself divided up into short stories and novels...and some of these are more autiobiographical than fictional. And yeah, he's great too, and there's a bunch of stuff on him in the library, so it's all cool.

In other news, I'm going to see The Sound of Music in July! Yes, July. Tickets were more or less impossible to get until then. Yes, it's also an incredibly gay thing to do too. But I like to play around with the stereotype sometimes for sociological reasons. Who am I kidding? The Sound of Music is just fabulous!!

In further news, it's getting close to christmas! I am loving it. I looooove xmas. Do I have permission to sing xmas songs? And dress in red? And.....

OK, but I do love xmas so :-)
